Roman Zvi Preigerson “When the lamp goes out” tells about the life of the Jews – before and after the Great Patriotic War – in the Ukrainian town of Gadyach. The founder of the Khabada, Schneur-Zalman from Lyad is buried in the town cemetery. His grave supports eternal flame that is non -bored for more than a hundred years – a symbol of Jewish tradition and culture. When, during the occupation by the Germans and Ukrainian policemen, the Jews of the town were destroyed, went out and the lamp. At the end of the novel, the theme of Zion – a country where Jews can be free and independent.
