The word “management” is found everywhere today. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund provide loans on the terms of “proper management”. Climate change and bird flu are the issues of “global management”. The European Union issues reports on “management”. Even the US forestry service speaks of the need for “collaboration management.” What explains this distribution of the term “management”, and what does it mean? The word “management” is used today in many contexts, but in general it refers to all forms of coordination and regulation, which are inherent in decentralized in nature and horizontal accountability.
In this “very brief introduction,” Mark Bevir considers not only the main theories of management, but also their influence in many areas, including corporate, state and global relations.
