A real local history study is devoted to fashion shops and modists in Moscow in the first half of the XIX century. An attempt was made to identify the most famous names of the craftswomen and masters of mods, the contours of their fate, the characteristic features of their activities, the names of customers. The presented materials are mainly related to luxury shops, such as the firm of the E.Theler, Monighetti, Lebura, for which it is possible to trace the approximate period of the store’s existence and get an idea of the assortment. The work used information from archival documents, newspapers, magazines and urban reference books of the 19th century, reports of the Moscow Oberpolitzmaster, essays, diaries and memoirs of contemporaries, research on the history of culture and everyday life.
