The folding fan was invented, allegedly in Japan, and in the 9th century appeared in China. In the east, he was the most important belonging to religious and court ceremonies. In Russia, the folding fans were used in the 18th century, in the era of Peter’s reforms, but they became especially popular a little later, when women – Empress Ekaterina I, Anna Ioannovna, Elizaveta Petrovna and Ekaterina II were especially popular.
