Outstanding Russian graphic artist Nikolai Vasilievich Kuzmin was a brilliant illustrator Pushkin. His first Pushkin work was a cycle of illustrations for the anniversary academic publication “Evgeny Onegin” (1933) was awarded a large gold medal at the World Book Exhibition in Paris (1937). “The most literary” (according to K. Chukovsky) of domestic graphs, N.V. Kuzmin was also known as a wonderful master of words, the author of subtle and deep works on art.
The proposed book prepared for the Pushkin anniversary of the artist’s son, the historian of culture M.N. Kuzmin, collects family memories and materials of the home archive, and also presented the author’s thoughts about the creative fate of N.V. Kuzmin and his generation. A significant part of the drawings from the “Pushkin” folder of the artist is published for the first time. The book includes the artist’s essay about Pushkin and a full cycle of portrait sketches of the great poet, to the image of which N.V. Kuzmin turned throughout his creative life.
