Alexander Kuprin is one of the most famous masters of prose of the twentieth century. Fascinating stories, bright, memorable characters, precisely noticed household details, a variety of intonations, lyricism in combination with extreme realism – characteristic features of the style of this wonderful narrator. After the revolution, in 1919, A. I. Kuprin left Russia. In exile, he created one of his best works – the autobiographical novel of the Junker, which became a kind of outcome of the military theme in the writer’s work (“on the turning point”, “duel”, “headquarters captain Rybnikov”, etc.). Being far from his homeland, he resurrects images of the distant past, recalling his youth, studying at the Alexander Military School, Friends and relatives. “I would like,” said Kuprin, “so that the past that has gone forever, our schools, our junkers, our life, customs, traditions remained at least on paper and did not disappear not only from the world, but even from the memory of people. The junker is my will of Russian youth.”
