These stories and heroes seem very familiar – and it is not surprising, because contemporary art returns to them over and over again, playing in a new way. But how did it all begin? What stories about courage and fidelity, love and magic were the first to conquer the hearts of readers (we say – readers, because the oral tradition leaves too deep to trace it here)? This book contains legends about Roland, King Arthur, Merlin, the searches of the Grail, as well as about Side Ampeador and Amadis of Galsky and many other heroes of the past. The Russian retelling of French and Spanish legends, prepared at the end of the 19th century by Ekaterina Balobanova and Olga Peterson, was written by a beautiful and light syllable, and the magnificent illustrations of Denis Gordeev allow you to fully feel the atmosphere of knightly novels.
