Masterpieces of European graphics from the collection of V.N. and N.V. Fables

The exhibition of the graphic collection of Vasily Nikolaevich and Nikolai Vasilievich Basnins represents one of the best parts of the meeting of the GMIA graphics department named after A.S. Pushkin. The current project is designed to pay tribute to two wonderful people who devoted their lives to the service of art, whose active enthusiasm testified not only to the passion for collecting, but also about participation in the fate of Russian culture as a whole. “Ars Animae Humanae Speculum Est” (Latin – Art – Mirror of the human soul) – this was the motto pricked on the ownership of the Basnins, which was noted by the majority of the sheets of their collection. A private collection is also a kind of mirror in which the soul of the collector is distinguishable – and, it seems that this aspect is especially important to keep in mind, studying the collection of engraving of outstanding Russian bass collectors.
