The book, created by famous German specialists from the Braunschweig Technical University, introduces the reader to the behavior of metals, polymers, ceramic and compositional materials under the influence of mechanical load. A wide circle of topics is considered, starting from the methods of mechanical tests and descriptions of elastic characteristics and plasticity of materials, and ending with the dislocation theory of metal deformation. The behavior of materials at cyclic loading is described, when exposed to elevated temperature, high loading rate and other influences.
This is a wonderful textbook “for the first reading”, describing the mechanical behavior of materials. On the one hand, the authors managed to avoid sliding into excessively complex mathematics, and on the other hand, in the elementary transfer of various materials and mechanical phenomena.
The training manual will be useful to students and teachers of material sciences and machine-building specialties, research engineers and developers.
