Peter Rossi – Russian miniaturist: T. Selinova

This is the first monograph on the work of Peter Osipovich Rossi – a Russian academician, an outstanding artist of miniature portrait painting. The name of Russia is associated with the heyday of Russian fine art of the first third of the XIX century. The miniature portraits of Russia are executed with brilliant skill, differ in the sophistication of color, the truthful transmission of the character of a person, and poetry.
Rossi created a gallery of portrait images of its contemporaries, in which the humanistic ideals of the era were embodied – deep humanity, internal independence and dignity of personality. Among them are portraits of statesmen, outstanding heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812: N.N. Raevsky, M.A. Miloradovich, Prince D.V. Golitsyna, future Decembrists M.F. Orlova, A.F. von der Britten, as well as representatives of creative professions – sculptor I.P. Martos, architect K.I. Rossi, painter N.I. Tonchi, ballerina E.A. Teleshova.
