The influence that William Shakespeare, the greatest English playwright and the poet of the late Renaissance, had it on the development of world literature and theater, is difficult to exaggerate. His genius is universal, neither time nor distances over him are powerful. “The whole world was won by him: his victories are stronger than the victories of Napoleons and Caesars,” wrote Shakespeare I.S. Turgenev. “The greatest poet of the new world was created for eternity – and will live forever!” The work of the most famous representative of the Elizabeth Golden Age is extremely multifaceted: these are tragedies and historical chronicles, sonnets and comedies. The latter occupy a significant place in Shakespeare’s heritage.
