The collection includes the works of Ivan Shmelev: the pilgrimage, old Valaam. The pilgrimage describes the trip of the heroes of the book on the pilgrimage in the Trinity -Sergius Lavra – the Old Russian Monastery, founded by Sergius of Radonezh. The author reveals to us the unique world of ordinary Russian people, whose life is warmed by a simple and strong faith in God. The second work is dedicated to the pilgrimage of the author and his young wife in the ancient Orthodox monastery – the Valaam Monastery. This is an interesting description of the life of Orthodox people of the very beginning of the 20th century, the stories of the author of monks-high-founders and miracle workers, about pilgrims, about the harsh northern nature and beautiful temples.
