In the novel “Wine of Loneliness” (1935), Iren Nemirovsky tells the story of Helen Karol – girls from a Jewish family. At first she lives in a provincial Ukrainian town, then moves to Petersburg. After the October Revolution, becoming a witness to cruel scenes, he runs to Finland with his family, and from there to France. Against this historical background, the author talks about the difficult relationship between Helen with her parents. Lonely and deprived of childhood, from an early age she sees human feelings nevertheless inside out, vicious life, broken, full of contradictions, lies and suffering. And yet, having drunk a bitter cup of the wine of loneliness, Helen eventually begins everything from scratch.
